RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
The neurology Unit ahead by Prof. Marinella Clerico is a composed by clinicians, immunologist, biologist and psychologist focused on the study of several aspect of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) disease from a multidisciplinary point of view. As MS is a multifactorial disease, with a dysregulated immune response and different clinical manifestations, the main research activities of the research group consist in studying the immune system during the different phases of the disease, during therapies and how it is influenced by several environmental factors such as gut microbiota, diet, hormones and infections. Furthermore, the group is involved into aspects more extensively linked to the subject with MS understood in his own complexity with research programs aimed at nutrition, adapted physical activity, parenting or psychological support paths, to telemedicine.
ATTIVITÀ DI RICERCA
L'Unità di ricerca in neurologia clinica e immunologica a capo della Prof.ssa Marinella Clerico è composta da un team multidisciplinare di clinici, immunologi, biologi e psicologi focalizzati sullo studio di diversi aspetti della Sclerosi Multipla (SM). Poiché la SM è una malattia multifattoriale, causata da una risposta immunitaria disregolata e con diverse manifestazioni cliniche, le principali attività di ricerca del gruppo sono rivolte alla comprensione dei meccanismi immunitari coinvolti durante le diverse fasi della malattia e alla risposta alle terapie, e di come il sistema immunitario dei pazienti con SM sia influenzato da diversi fattori ambientali quali il microbiota intestinale, la dieta, gli ormoni e le infezioni. Inoltre, il gruppo è coinvolto in aspetti più estensivamente legati più estesamente legati al soggetto con SM inteso nella sua complessità con programmi di ricerca rivolti alla alimentazione, alla attività fisica adattata, ai percorsi di sostegno alla genitorialità o psicologici e alla telemedicina.
